Our facility, Haven House, provides emergency and transitional beds, personal care supplies, food, housing support, eviction prevention, and advocacy to anyone over the age of sixteen. We apply housing first, rapid re-housing, shelter diversion and harm reduction principles within our service delivery model, client case management and care plans.

The housing support service helps renters find and maintain safe, adequate housing. The level of support varies on a case-to-case basis but can include assistance with rental applications, sending paperwork to agencies, and interfacing with landlords.

We are responsible for maintaining, managing and operating safe and suitable public housing for low-income Nova Scotians. We operate and maintain public housing units across the province in a variety of building styles, from single family homes to high-rise apartment buildings.

The Canada-Nova Scotia Targeted Housing Benefit provides renters with a monthly supplement to help pay their rent. The supplement is based on your household size and income, as well as your actual rent paid (up to a maximum of the average market rent in your area). As long as you’re eligible, you continue getting the rent supplement. You need to complete an annual renewal application to confirm that you’re still eligible each year.
